Why Have Alar Reduction?
This procedure reshapes a nose with wide nasal wings by making them smaller. It is often performed along with nose augmentation to create more balanced, attractive nasal proportions.
Is Your Nose Flared?
Do your nasal wings extend beyond the inner corners of your eyes? If so, your nose may appear wide or flared. This can be corrected with alar reduction, which narrows the nasal wings or reduces the size of the nostrils.
Steps of the Surgery
The surgeon makes an incision on the inner side of the nasal wing, curving beneath its base. A strip of inner tissue, approximately 2–4 millimeters wide depending on the patient’s alar width, is removed. The incision is then curved toward the underside of the alar base.
Side Effects of Alar Reduction
Swelling, redness, and bruising may occur after surgery. These will gradually go away on their own. As with any surgery, alar reduction carries a risk of complications, although these are uncommon. Possible complications include infection, scarring, or asymmetry of the nasal wings or nostrils. Patients can reduce these risks by choosing a reputable hospital or clinic that meets recognized standards.
